After Honorary Professor Yoshinori Ohsumi was awarded the Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine in 2016, a fund was set up in his name to broaden the base of researchers and to foster talented individuals who will serve as a foundation for Japan in the future. For example, the fund provides for students in need of financial help who wish to study at the Institute, and promotes support for young researchers engaged in fundamental research that requires a long-term
