Academic Presentations Online Workshop

With the intention of enhancing research capabilities at Tokyo Institute of Technology, the Office of Research and Innovation will host the Academic Presentations Online Workshop. By assisting researchers in improving their presentation skills, this workshop is expected to promote international collaboration and joint publication. This workshop is supported by the MEXT Program for Promoting the Enhancement of Research Universities.

In this interactive workshop, an expert in academic presentation will discuss strategies for giving effective in-person and virtual presentations (Lecture), and hold presentation practices where participants can present on their research using their own slides (Presentation Practice).

Dates and Format

The event will be held online via Zoom.

  • Lecture
    Day 1: Tuesday, February 16, 2021, 10:00-12:00
    Day 2: Wednesday, February 17, 2021, 10:00-12:00

    Registrants will be expected to attend both days of the Lecture.

  • Presentation Practice (Optional)
    Wednesday, February 24, 2021, 10:00-12:00
    Thursday, February 25, 2021, 10:00-12:00

    Persons interested in attending the Presentation Practice can apply for either 2/24 or 2/25.
    Presentation Practice attendees must attend the Lecture.

  • Presentation Practice (Optional)
    Participants must prepare and submit slides by Friday, February 12. The slides will be reviewed by the trainer and returned to the participant with feedback. Participants will then revise their slides based on the trainer’s feedback, and give their presentations on the appointed day.
    • Participants may submit up to 5 PowerPoint slides (excluding title and thank you slides).
    • Each participant will present for approximately 10 minutes, and take questions and feedback from other attendees and the trainer for 5 minutes.
    • All participants will also assess and provide written (anonymous) feedback on the presentations to be shared at the end of the workshop.

Screening and Selection

The Office of Research and Innovation will screen applications received before the deadline and select applicants to attend the workshop. Priority will be given to applicants who plan to present at international conferences in the near future, early-career researchers, and applicants with responsibilities in instructing other Tokyo Tech members on presentation. All applicants will be contacted when selections have been made.

Other

  • Activity materials will be emailed to registrants during the week prior to the Lecture.
  • Analytics data will be collected for internal reporting purposes.
  • Questionnaires will be distributed after the Lecture and Presentation Practice. Your cooperation is appreciated.
  • A recording of the Lecture will be available for viewing after the event.
