Material Transfer Agreement (MTA)
Before commencement of collaborative research, etc., or other research collaboration by
When there is exchange of information between both parties regarding the research to ascertain whether they are in agreement concerning the intention of the research subject, when the properties, etc., of material* created by faculty members are learned of within the corporation, an MTA is concluded between Science Tokyo and the corporation.
*Material: In an MTA agreement, material is called "seika yuutaibutsu, " in Japanese. Material does not refer only to chemicals; devices and apparatus, etc., are also treated as material.
When provision of material created by Science Tokyo faculty members is desired
Science Tokyo may request that the corporation bear the equivalent value of materials provided (a bill will be sent after conclusion of the agreement).
The amount of the equivalent value of material provided is computed by faculty members based on the cost of raw materials required to produce the material, personnel expenses, fees for utilities, etc., and presented to the corporation.
In cases when material in connection with intellectual property held by Science Tokyo is commercialized, conclusion of a license agreement is required.
When faculty members receive material owned by a corporation in order to conduct their research
An MTA is concluded between Science Tokyo and the corporation.
【Precautions】
These agreements are agreements between Science Tokyo and corporations. Individual faculty members of Science Tokyo do not conclude agreements with corporations. In regard to conclusion of agreements, the Technology Promotion Section in the Center for Innovation Management concludes agreements, and not faculty members.
In cases when an agreement is required, contact a supervisor of industrial cooperation (or a faculty member).
Flow of Agreement
1. For the objectives mentioned above, conclusion of an MTA is desired.
2. Make the request through the faculty member you talk with, or directly contact the Center for Innovation Management at Science Tokyo.
